Apple Cake

Where did I find this tasty treat?

As those of you who have been following my blog lately know, I’m on a bit of a baking adventure this year. Over the course of the year I’ve been looking up all sorts of baked goods online, and have stumbled upon some pretty great blogs.  One of the wordpress blogs I follow now is Baker on the Rise and I found this recipe on her blog in late March.  It looked so yummy and simple that I wanted to try it.  I followed the recipe exactly as she had written and it was really good.

I got 99 problems and baking is one:

This was another easy recipe to follow and I didn’t actually have any major problems.  Actually if I’m being honest this whole baking thing is getting a lot easier.  Not any less messy, but easier.  I was way too lazy for thinly slicing apples, so I sort of sliced, then decided the chunks were a bit too big, so I just chopped and chopped until the bits were small enough.

The cake came together really easily and baked up quite nicely.  Looked and smelled amazing when it came out of the oven! I dusted the top of the cake a bit early the first time around so the sugar melted before I could serve it.  I ended up dusting it again right before I served it and brought it into work for our staff meeting, it was a big hit!

Lessons learned:

  1. Baker on the rise takes incredibly beautiful pictures for her blog.
  2. Thinly sliced or sliced and chopped up a bit, are totally the same thing.
  3. WAIT to add the confectioners sugar until you know the cake is totally cooled!
